What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a precise, safe, and permanent technique that allows for the treatment of individual hair. The treatment is performed when a thin, sterilized probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle and an electric current is released. This current produces heat which allows for the destruction of the cells responsible for hair growth.
Will Electrolysis work on me?
Yes, Electrolysis is an effective treatment on every hair color and skin type.
Can I receive Electrolysis on any body part?
We avoid treatment near the eye and inside the inner ear canal. We do treat every other part of the body, including eyebrows!
Why should I choose Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the only FDA and medically approved hair removal method. Laser and IPL are hair reduction treatments and laser is only effective on dark hair. Electrolysis is a hair removal treatment and it is effective on any hair color.
How long does it take for the hair to be removed permanently?
The number of treatments needed varies depending on the size of the area to be cleared, your hormonal levels, your hair growth cycle, etc. The general answer is 18 months to 3 years. When clients are consistent treatment times will become shorter in time and further apart until results are achieved.
How does my hair grow?
Hair grows in 3 cycles (anagen, catagen, & telogen). Hairs in anagen are still connected and in the telogen have begun to slough off. A certain percentage of hairs treated with Electrolysis will grow back finer in texture. Some hairs may be twisted or curved underneath the surface of the skin. These hairs are more difficult to remove because the heat can not come into direct contact with the papilla, therefore they usually require multiple treatments but can still be successfully treated over time. It is important to stay consistent with your scheduled appointments.
If I receive laser can I still receive Electrolysis treatments?
Yes, Electrolysis is a great choice to treat the hair that laser could not. In many instances, clients do both methods simultaneously. Treatments between laser and Electrolysis must be at minimum one week apart. Laser is recommended to aid in the Electrolysis treatment on large areas like back, leg, & chest.
How long should my hair be for treatment?
The hair must be long enough to grip with tweezers and short enough to see which direction the hairs are growing. If the hairs are too long, it slows down the process. We recommend shaving 3 to 5 days prior to your appointment. The hair should be at least 3mm long for treatment.
What does Electrolysis feel like?
Tolerance levels vary from person to person. Clients usually only feel a very light tingling sensation during the current release. We do our best to adjust settings to provide a comfortable experience.
How do I maintain in between treatments?
You may shave or cut hair in between appointments. No tweezing, waxing, threading or any method that pulls the hair out by the root. When you forcibly rip from the papilla the body sends more blood to the area in an attempt to heal itself (this causes follicle distortion, skin discoloration and ingrown hairs.) These reactions are apart of our bodies defense system against trauma.
How do I prepare for treatment?
Hydrate yourself by drinking half of your body weight in oz. Get plenty of rest.
Can pregnant women receive Electrolysis?
Yes, with approval from a doctor and after the first trimester.
Can I receive Electrolysis if I have a hearing aid?
Yes, unless it is a cochlear implant. We recommend the aid is turned off before treatment.
Can hair be removed from moles?
Yes.
What are my aftercare instructions?
Stay out of direct sunlight, no excessive sweating, no wearing makeup & no touching the area until the next morning. We will cleanse the area after your session and properly apply hydration to soothe and help bring the skin back to its normal PH. Swelling and redness usually disappear after 3 hours.
